PianoDay Pittsburgh 2024

Open to the public piano event under the tent at Schenley Plaza!

PianoDay has gotten too big for just one day!  Pittsburgh Piano Day Pittsburgh founder Peter Stumpf is partnering with Modern Piano again this year and we are thrilled to announce the addition of the 2024 PianoDay songwriting competition.

On Saturday, September 14th from 3 to 5 PM under the big tent in Schenley Plaza there will be a beautiful new Kawai artist grand piano, ready to make music with our regional songwriters.

Contestants will be divided into two categories, youth and adult. All songs must be original compositions. The winner from each group will receive a framed certificate authenticating their achievement, an $88 cash prize and a gift certificate towards a purchase of a new instrument from Modern piano. Plus, Pittsburgh bragging rights, good for at least one whole year!

Then from 5 to 6 PM we will be making the piano available for public play. First come first serve, just for the joy of playing.

This is all in addition to the September 15th evening event on Grandview Avenue beginning at 5pm, where two pianos will be situated on the overlooks.

So, dust off that song you’ve been working on, or perhaps you just want to hear a lot of fresh, organic music straight from the composer’s heart. Either way, this event is for you.
